25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 24)

Green Day – Minority (2000)

One night during the Xmas period, several years ago, it was very late, the wee small hours of the morning, and several bottles of wine had been consumed… VH1 on the TV and our favourite band at the time, Green Day, came on with their rebellious anthem Minority.

Up we leapt to dance around the living room. Moshing around like a lunatic, I lost my footing and fell backwards.

You know that cartoon-like, arms flailing, trying to stay balanced look? I did it.

You know that “Oh fuck!” wide-eyed, dawning of realisation look that creeps over your face just before something  bad happens? He did it.

He reached out to catch me. Everything seemed to enter slow motion…

Backwards I went, straight onto my ass. Hard!

My lower back clipped the TV unit, which left a nasty bruise and cut that remained for several weeks.

We burst out laughing and breathed massive sighs of relief that I had just about, very narrowly, missed crashing into the TV screen itself.

Then he helped me to my feet, inspected the damage to my back and we changed channels, looking for more music to dance to. Two idiots!

  1. Gotta love a bit of Green Day and a mosh, of course.
Before we were a thing, me and my hubster were out at a poky music venue above a grotty pub in Manchester, listening to some obscure indie band he was into.
Much Newcastle Brown Ale had been drunk, and hubster dances like a windmill at the best of times. Moshing was happening and before I knew it, he’d smacked me in the face and given me a black eye. We carried just on dancing and drinking, nearly missing the train home in the process. Despite the bruises, I still asked him to marry me three years later.
Love, moshing and alcohol- what a beautiful combination 🙂

Talk to me!
