This week’s word is…
Yes, it is a made up word, but hey? sometimes those are the best!
This word means to speak…
in. the. style. of. William. Shat…ner, as Kevin Pollack demonstrates perfectly here.
Who doesn’t love The Shatner?
He overacted his little space socks off as the wonderfully brave, dynamic and perpetually horny Capt. James Tiberius Kirk in Star Trek, The Original Series.
He didn’t give a shit what species you were, as long as you had a hole he could stick his “phaser” in.
Green, scaly, reptilian, hairy; not a single fuck was given by the walking gonad that was Capt. Kirk. Check out some of his more memorable love interests here!
Star Trek famously featured the first ever US televised interracial kiss between Kirk and the sexy Communications Officer, Lt. Uhura in the episode Plato’s Stepchildren. The kiss was originally intended to be shared by Lt. Uhura and Mr. Spock… until Shatner vetoed that plan…
Nichelle Nichols revealed the behind the scenes story as follows;
“Bill Shatner saw what was going on and he said, ‘Woah, woah, woah. If anybody is gonna get to kiss Lieutenant Uhura it’s gonna be me.’ And he had the whole thing changed so the first interracial kiss was with Lieutenant Uhura and Captain Kirk. Bill wanted to rehearse all the time. He said he wanted to get this right! I said to him, “It’s right, it’s right. I promise you, it’s right.” And the camera was shaking and the director was laughing his head off. We really had a good time.”
So, it seems Shatner and Kirk were both sex-mad little pervs!
Fast forward to 1982 and Shatner stepped into the shoes of Sergeant T.J. Hooker, who was, wait for it… another ladies man.
Hooker had a very unique policing style, constantly leaping over car hoods and fences and dropping to roll on the ground, for no apparent reason, other than he maybe thought it made him look good? Who knows?
Treat yourself to a nostalgic giggle here. Trust me, it is 3 minutes of your time that are so worth it.
Shatner went on to host the reality show Rescue 911 and starred in Boston Legal and The Practice, as well as hosting his own talk show, Shatner’s Raw Nerve, where he candidly interviewed and probed the lives of celebrities. He revealed a sensitive and reflective interviewing style, forming real connections with his guests, often resulting in them disclosing highly intimate and personal aspects of their lives.
If you haven’t already watched it, I seriously recommend a YouTube search… you may be surprised to see this side of Shatner.
So. that. is. my. word. for. today.
And yes… I do sometimes Shatner… Just. for. fun!
