25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 24)

Green Day – Minority (2000)

One night during the Xmas period, several years ago, it was very late, the wee small hours of the morning, and several bottles of wine had been consumed… VH1 on the TV and our favourite band at the time, Green Day, came on with their rebellious anthem Minority.

Up we leapt to dance around the living room. Moshing around like a lunatic, I lost my footing and fell backwards.

You know that cartoon-like, arms flailing, trying to stay balanced look? I did it.

You know that “Oh fuck!” wide-eyed, dawning of realisation look that creeps over your face just before something ¬†bad happens? He did it.

He reached out to catch me. Everything seemed to enter slow motion…

Backwards I went, straight onto my ass. Hard!

My lower back clipped the TV unit, which left a nasty bruise and cut that remained for several weeks.

We burst out laughing and breathed massive sighs of relief that I had just about, very narrowly, missed crashing into the TV screen itself.

Then he helped me to my feet, inspected the damage to my back and we changed channels, looking for more music to dance to. Two idiots!

25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 25)

The last day of my trip down musical memory lane… I’ll be both sad and relieved this is over.

Sad because I enjoyed my searches through YouTube and listening to some of my favourite songs. Relieved because this exercise has taken up my time to the extent that my erotica has been neglected and I need to get back on that horse!

There are several songs I could listen to and not get tired of… Lately I have had both Ed Sheeran and Hozier playing more or less on loop and I haven’t gotten bored yet! Much to the OH’s chagrin!

Glancing through my playlist for songs I haven’t already mentioned I see:

Paulo Nutini –¬†Loving You¬† and¬†Last Request¬† ¬†(Such a beautiful boy! Yeah I’m a filthy cougar!)

Bob Marley – Redemption Song

Great songs for the car…

Five For Fighting – Superman

The Calling – Wherever You Will Go

But I will settle on this…

Ed Sheeran – The Parting Glass

Such a beautiful old Irish folk song, and his gorgeous, gentle, soft voice, I simply love this version!

Thanks for accompanying me on my little journey, I hope you’ve enjoyed getting a wee glimpse at my musical taste. I have enjoyed singing along as I write, so thank your lucky stars WP doesn’t allow audio!

25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 23)

U2 – Any of their songs!

Yes, I am Irish and yes, I hate U2!

I am not alone either. There are plenty of U2 hating Irish people.

I think it comes down to one thing… Bono.

Or as I like to call him… Dickhead.

Possibly the moist pretentious man on the planet, we have many, many¬†cutting jokes about him…

¬†What’s the difference between God and Bono? ¬†God doesn’t wander around Dublin thinking he’s Bono.

Bono is at a U2 concert when he asks the audience for some quiet. Then in the silence, he starts to slowly clap his hands. Holding the audience in total silence, he says into the microphone… “Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies.” A voice from near the front pierces the silence… “Well, fucking stop it then!”

“Bono has emergency back surgery”.¬†His head was removed from his own¬†arse.

With the death of Gary Moore and, following that, of Stephen Gately, that is now two Irish musicians that have died in Spain recently.¬†If you’re reading this Bono… Marbella is nice this time of year.

I took an overdose a couple of weeks ago.¬†Immodium!¬†Not been able to shite since.¬†In fact, I’m so full of shit now……I’m beginning to sound like Bono.

Bono, Gaelic for cunt.

Boom! Boom!

I can safely say if a U2 song comes on the radio I switch stations, every single time.

25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 22)

Kris Kristofferson РHelp Me Make It Through The Night (1970)

Dear God the memory! I shudder!

I was 20 years old, away at a summer school in the UK for a week studying psychology and a much older gentleman from Yorkshire insisted on publicly serenading me one night in front of everyone at the open air bar.

He was a lecturer and about the same age as my Dad, not remotely attractive and, to add insult to injury, couldn’t sing! People… he had a guitar! A freaking guitar!

I have no idea what made him think he had any hope of a chance of seducing me, especially not with that song! I think perhaps he was delusional? Or drunk?

I still cringe when I hear that song!

Enough said…

25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 21)

That is impossible!

I have different songs for different moods. I would find it absolutely impossible to choose one song over another.

But I gotta play by the rules I guess so, with enormous reluctance, I will pick a song…

Jeff Buckley РHallelujah (1994)

Originally¬†written by Canadian singer-songwriter¬†Leonard Cohen, released in¬†1984, you can Google endlessly the various interpretations of the meaning¬†of the song, (here for example), but for me, Buckley’s version is all about sex!

Cohen grouchily groaned his way through the song, his rendition void of the raw emotion and passion that Buckley brought to the table.

Buckley’s version, with its melancholy tone, its weeping guitar riffs, his tortured voice and breathing portrays the pain, suffering and vulnerability of love, and¬†was described by Buckley ¬†himself as “a hallelujah to the orgasm”.

In 2004,¬†Time magazine¬†declared that¬†Buckley’s version “exquisitely sung,” adding¬†“Cohen murmured the original like a dirge, but … Buckley treated the … song like a tiny capsule of humanity, using his voice to careen between glory and sadness, beauty and pain… It’s one of the great songs.” I am 100% in agreement with Time on this!

I listen to this song and I get shivers, tingles and yes… I get aroused! It’s my ‘go-to’ sex song to get me in the mood.

Perhaps that is why, if forced to choose a favourite song, I opted for this one… because it gives me those pleasurable feelings…

I am a woman with a very healthy sexual appetite after all, in case you might have missed that somehow, or you haven’t been paying attention!

Let’s add into the mix that he was quite¬†a beautiful looking young man and its safe to say this is one song that will always turn me on.

25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 20)

Day 20

Ed¬†Sheeran – You Need Me, I Don’t Need You¬†(2011)

Well, I can’t help it that this is the last song alphabetically on my playlist! I have already discussed my love of this song on Day 15!

How about I share another song? It’s the second last A-Z… good enough?

Hozier РWork Song (2014)

I just think about my baby
I’m so full of love I could barely eat
There’s nothing sweeter than my baby
I never want once from the cherry tree
Cause my baby’s sweet as can be
She give me toothaches just from kissin me

How could you not love a man that comes out with lines like that?! Seriously!

The way he speaks about how this woman saved him from himself, from his “drunken sin” is so beautiful. Her acceptance of him, her lack of judgement, is what we are all looking for I believe. Someone who simply takes us as we are, the good, the bad, the in-between.

He paints a picture of worship and reverence…

No grave can hold my body down
I’ll crawl home to her

He cares not even for his God’s forgiveness as long as he has hers…

If the Lord don’t forgive me
I’d still have my baby and my babe would have me

This song is like a prayer to her. If you haven’t listened to his other songs, I urge to to do so.

This is a man that knows how to love a woman. I wonder if he’s single…¬†ūüėą

25 Songs, 25 Days (Day 18)

Day 18

Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water (1964)

I could have picked several of their songs as I adore them; the poetry, the imagery, the harmonies. Sadly, the OH cannot share my enthusiasm so I never play it in the car… I am prioritising heading over to Spotify after I write this so I can enjoy it while he’s not home!

Singing along right now and feeling every single emotion; friendship, love, loneliness, sadness, pain.

The way his voice soars and the sincerity in it touches me every time.

We all need that one person in our lives that we know will be there when life gets too hard.

Someone to “sail right behind” us as we navigate the stormy seas of loss, depression, stress, and all the other flotsam and jetsam life can throw at us. Some who will say “your time has come to shine, all your dreams are on their way.”

I usually listen to this song with tears in my eyes. The combination of the sentiment behind it, the vocals and the piano… it’s all a bit too much for this sensitive little soul who has had her days when she needed a Bridge. A big fucking strong suspension Bridge!

I truly hope you guys and gals reading this have a¬†Bridge in your life… you deserve one.
